I haven’t made any wordy posts for quite a while now, so here is one. I’ll be talking about Call of Duty: World At War and Mass Effect 2. This is possibly going to be the last of the game updates for a very long time. I did want to play Gears of War, but that game just gave me horrible headaches similar to those you get when you read while in a car. Its funny, because Kotaku made a post about headaches recently too. I might get around to playing it one day, but it’ll definitely take a while. If you’re wondering why I’m getting sick from Gears of War, the camera moves around Cloverfield style. The problem is, the screen is smaller, and the graphics is much worse (anything below cinematic trailers or Final Fantasy movies is crappy graphics).
I really don’t mean to be THAT guy but I really just can’t help myself. Which Gears of War are you referring to? The first or the second? Either way your statement is ridiculous.
“The problem is, the screen is smaller, and the graphics is much worse (anything below cinematic trailers or Final Fantasy movies is crappy graphics).”
^That might be the single most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. First of all, the first Gears of War was released in 2006, that’s 4 years ago when this generation of consoles was in it’s infancy. There was NO better looking game at the time on any console, and it would remain that way until BioShock came along in 2007. Im not exactly sure why im wasting my breathe explaining this to you but the original Gears of War revolutionized gaming. The unreal engine 3(gears of war’s in-game engine) is used for half the games out there this generation simply because developers were so envious of the visuals in Gears. Mass Effect 1&2, Mirror’s Edge, BioShock 1&2, and Borderlands(just to name a few) all use the Unreal Engine 3 which was invented by EPIC games, the developers of Gears of War. Gears of War 2 is STILL one of the best looking games this generation. There are only a handful of games that can match it visually on consoles. Those include Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, MGS4, Modern Warfare 2, and possibly both Ratchet and Clanks. Gears’ art style is dark and ominous therefore, the colors and textures aren’t going to “pop” like they would in a game like Mass Effect, but don’t be fooled by that, it’s textures, design, and physics are definitely superior to 95 percent of the games out there.
Now that that’s out of the way let me get to the troubling matter at hand. Did you really just compare CINEMATIC TRAILERS and/or MOVIES to an actual GAME? You do realize that Cinematic trailers don’t use the engine of the games right? ESPECIALLY in FINAL FANTASY. If that is your standard then I have some news for you buddy, all games look WORSE than cinematic trailers. Go youtube the CG trailers for Gears of War or hell the best example HALO 3. Do those games look as good? Go youtube the cinematic cutscene videos from Final Fantasy X. Does the game actually LOOK that good when you’re playing it? HELL NO. Let me tell you a little secret that you’re clearly not smart enough to understand yet… CG trailers/cutscenes are not the real GRAPHICS! So next time you blow your load over the CG cutscenes in FFXII remember that those are premade videos installed on the disc. Games like Gears of War, Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed actually USE their engines when they create cutscenes for the story, the don’t hide behind premade CG videos.
